Located in Detroit’s historic Rivertown district, and housed in a 1919 factory warehouse, Atwater Brewery was founded in March of 1997 with the purpose of carrying on the rich history of breweries in Detroit. Their brewing process, however, is over 200 years old.
Their imported Kasper Schultz brew house allows them to brew their brands in the true heritage-style of traditional German lagers. And, when they say, “imported brew house,” they mean it! All of their main brewing equipment was brought in from Germany, where precision and passion for beer has its roots. In fact, when they have service calls on their equipment, they call in the Germans!
Likewise, they only use the finest malt and hops from Germany to brew their lagers. Their specialty ales, on the other hand, are brewed with only the finest American hops. All of which makes Atwater beers distinctly fresh and flavorful. Which is exactly why they live by the slogan: “We drink all we can and sell the rest.”
 With a beautifully crafted, copper cored English Style Porter at its heart, Atwater’s Vanilla Java Porter tips its hat to the modern audience with the addition of vanilla and a specialty coffee extract that is locally produced and designed to be absent of burnt flavors. The beer, vanilla & coffee tumble together, enhancing the smooth latent natures of each. |
 Holding true to the Northern English tradition, the Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale has at its foundation a nutty profile with a round mouthfeel. Added is a Chocolate Extract consisting of three blended chocolates of varied depth. The result is a rich, but not overtly sweet, experience for both the beer and the chocolate enthusiast. |
