Terrapin Beer Company

Terrapin Beer Company was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Looking around at what other breweries in the Southeast were doing, Spike and John felt they could make a contribution. Realizing that anyone could make just another pale ale, brown ale or stout, Spike and John set their sights on crafting beers unlike any that were currently available in the Southeast.

Terrapin introduced its first beer, the Rye Pale Ale, in April of 2002. Six months later, while only available on draft in Athens, Terrapin’s sole offering won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival. Terrapin had arrived in style!

Since they were going to be making unique beers, Spike and John knew from the beginning that Terrapin Beer Company should be located in a city as distinctive as their brews. What better place than Athens, GA? Both Athens and Terrapin have a great love of music, are committed to the environment, and practice living life to the fullest.

History rolls forward, and so too has Terrapin. These days John and Spike are enjoying Terrapins new 40,000 square foot brewing facilities and taking advantage of the space to brew new innovative and exciting beers. The year round line up now includes the Rye Pale Ale, Golden Ale, the Hopsecutioner, Recreation Ale, Hi-5 and Liquid Bliss. Terrapin has also released many other beers and garnered several awards both in the U.S.A and internationally.

Rye Pale Ale
By using an exact amount of rye, a grain seldom found in other micro-brewed beers, the Rye Pale Ale acquires its signature taste. Made with 5 varieties of hops and a generous amount of specialty malts, it offers a complex flavor and aroma that is both aggressive and well balanced – a rare find among beers. The Terrapin Rye Pale Ale was released in Athens, GA in April of 2002, and 6-months later won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival.

The Hopsecutioner
You love hops, you ask for hops, and Hopsecutioner delivers! This Killer IPA earns its title by being brewed with six different hops to create an aggressive, yet exceptionally well-balanced, beer. Expect citrus and pine on the nose with a beautifully bitter finish; a strong malt backbone keeps the bitterness in check. They brewed this IPA for hop lovers and you may lose your hop head over this one!

Golden Ale
Terrapin Beer Company was started by two guys who love big, bold beers. They are known for using a ton of flavorful ingredients and for pushing the envelope with the brews we create. They have also been known to take pleasure in hiking, biking, kayaking, and just plain having fun in the great outdoors. When they get hot and sweaty, even hopheads like them want nothing more than to enjoy a beer that is crisp and refreshing. Which is why they created the perfect session beer!

RecreationAle
Wrap your hand around a can of our RecreationAle and explore what outside life has to offer. This hopped up session ale is specially formulated to accompany you on all of your activities. Pack in this flavorful ale and pack out the memories while enjoying this much loved sessionable brew!

HI-5 IPA
HI-5 California Style IPA fills out Terrapin’s year-round IPA selections and ensures that, where there’s a will, there’s an IPA! Like a memorable adventure along U.S. Route 101, HI-5 California Style IPA leads you down a road of pure adrenaline and beauty. Capturing the majestic flavor of citrusy hops that roll off your tongue like a white cap on an ocean wave, this scenic wonder will keep you in awe, sip after sip.

Liquid Bliss
Terrapin always loves a good experimental brew, but the salty-sweet combo of peanuts and chocolate has us all salivating a little more than usual. This brew, while smooth and mellow, still manages to challenge your taste buds. The porter base is dark and smooth, with enough backbone to support the richer chocolate and peanut butter additions. It is even dry “peanuted” with brewery-boiled green peanuts!
